Events & Exhibitions
All the below exhibitions are at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery unless stated.
The period before the First World War is often referred to as ‘The Golden Age’. Covering 1871-1914, it was a time of increased prosperity, scientific discovery and artistic freedom. As part of the national marking of the centenary of the First World War we will be exhibiting works of art from our fine art collection that represent this fascinating moment before the onset of war.
The exhibition will feature portraits and landscapes from the Golden Age and will include works by Harold Speed, John Collier, Frank Brangwyn and Walter Greaves and sculpture by artists including Paul Gauguin.
To complement the art exhibition The Golden Age, a selection of shoes from the late 19th century and beginning of the 20th century can be seen in the Shoe Lounge. This small display will highlight some of the wonderfully elegant shoes from this unique era.
