Join a host of knitters to celebrate Northampton’s biggest knitting project and World Wide Knitting in Public Day! Organised by the School of Life project, part of Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire, the Woolly Crew will be yarn bombing around the Abington Park bandstand. Installing knitting in the park, the group will be unveiling their huge woolly wendy house, knitted picnic, and giving demonstrations of knitting, spinning, and sewing skills.
All knitters are welcome, both groups and individuals. Bring a picnic, listen to the brass band as part of Northampton Borough Council’s Bands in the Park season, and admire the woollen creations!

To support the School of Life’s Big Summer Yarn Bomb event in the park, Abington Park Museum is holding workshops for little knitters and crafters. The workshops will include wool and yarn activities, including pompom making and learning how to use a knitting nancy.

Festival of Archaeology: Health and Wellbeing Across The AgesFestival of archaeology

A day of archaeology at Abington Park Museum looking at health and wellbeing across the ages through the themes of diet, disease, death, superstitions of ritual and medical health sources. Fun for all the family and interest levels – children can take part in an excavation in our special sandpit and adults can find out more in one of our specialist talks. In association with the Museum of London Archaeology and Cotswold Archaeology as part of the 2017 Festival of Archaeology.

Anchors Away!

Can you sail your own model boat? Join us for an afternoon with Abington Park Model Yacht Club to learn how to sail your very own model yacht. Decorate your sail and find out how to set up your yacht. Then, take a trip with us down to Abington Park boating lake to test your boat sailing skills and race against the other model boats. Suitable for children aged seven and over. The learning session will take place from 1.15-2pm, with the trip to the boating lake from 2-3pm.  Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Park Life Family Fun DayPark life

Join us for a full day of fun at Abington Park Museum to celebrate park life. Take part in park games, have your face painted as a park animal and create park related crafts. Come along and meet the groups who are active in Abington Park who will also be running their own activities, including the Friends of Abington Park and Northampton Leisure Trust’s play rangers. Fun for all the family.
