Air Quality Reviews in Northampton

Northampton Borough Council is required to regularly complete a review and assessment of its area for the following the seven pollutants in their areas and predict whether they are likely to meet the objectives of Environment Act 1995:

  • Benzene
  • 1,3-Butadiene
  • Lead
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Nitrogen Dioxide
  • Fine Particles (PM 10)
  • Sulphur Dioxide

Where a failure is identified, the area concerned will usually be declared as an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA), and an action plan is put in place to tackle the problems identified.

You can find a list of the  Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in Northampton here.

The Northampton Borough Council's Action Plan is likely to include planning controls, cross references to the Local Transport Plans and other measures intended to ensure that pollutant levels in the Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) meet the national objectives.
