Council Tax: methods of payment

There are several options when paying your Council Tax bill:

Direct debit

Pay automatically every month. Find out more about this.

Pay online

Our website provides a secure payment facility to pay your Council Tax by credit or debit card.

Payment may only be made using Visa, MasterCard, Delta, Maestro, Switch or Solo credit/debit cards.

A 1.34% commission charge is added where payment is made by credit card.

BACS/bank transfer

Transfer payments direct from your account to the council.

24 hour telephone payment line

Payzone and post office

Payments can be made at most outlets where you see the Payzone sign and at all post offices.

You can take your bill into the Payzone retailer or post office and your payment will be receipted using the unique barcode printed on it.

This service is free of charge.

Instalments

Council Tax is normally paid over ten monthly instalments, April to January; however, if you wish to request monthly instalments until March, please contact us within seven days of receipt of your new bill.

In some circumstances where your account is in arrears we may not be able to offer this facility immediately.
